FAQs

Here’s a list of questions we get asked frequently.  Have a question that isn’t answered here?  Just email our Chapter President, Colbert Callen at cb22nc@hotmail.com and she’ll be in touch with you.

What qualifies as a Young Alum?

Our emails go out to ages 20-40 and the people that show up for our events are mostly in their 20s & 30s, however age isn’t the parameter that we like to use.  Young Alum means young at heart.  If you’re out to have fun and be social we’d love to see you at an event.  In fact we had a 59 yr old make it to the top of Mt. Elbert with us and she was a blast!  We’ve also had a few folks in their early 20s come to an event and discuss PTA meetings & babysitter frustrations… they typically don’t come back.  Young Alums isn’t an age restriction, it’s a mindset.

What type of events do you run?

A lot, and we’re always looking for new ideas.  If you have an event you’d like to see please let us know.  In the past year here’s what we’ve done:  The Poker Run, Happy Hours, Wine Tastings, Nuggets, Avs & Rockies games, Networking Nights, 14er hikes, Habitat for Humanity projects, Movie Premieres, Pub Crawls, Film on the Rocks, Roller Derby, Wash Park Sunday/Fun-Days, and of course Buff watch parties & tailgates.  Got an idea for a new event?  Email Colbert at the link above.

How many people typically show up?  Who shows up?  What if I don’t know anyone?

Each event varies a bit.  Our CU watch parties at Blake St. Tavern generate our largest attendance of 500-1,000 regularly.  Smaller events usually draw out at least 40-50 so there are always plenty of people to mingle with.  We get all ages to show up for events but the majority are in their 20s & 30s.  We often have people sign up individually and come solo.  Everyone is out to have a good time and meet new people.  If you come by yourself and are any bit outgoing, you’ll be making new friends within minutes.

My friend wants to come to an event but didn’t go to CU, is that OK?

Yes.  Just so long as they didn’t go to CSU… OK, even if they did go to CSU.  Just tell them to keep quiet about it :)

How can I get more involved?

Our board meets the 2nd Monday of every month at 6:30 at Blake St. Tavern.  We meet in the Board Room towards the back of the bar.  Here you can meet the board and explore ways to get involved.  Our meetings typically last an hour.  Email Colbert if you’d like to attend our next meeting.
