CUYA is excited to announce that we are hosting a golf outing at Harvard Gulch Golf Course in Denver on Saturday, June 9th. The festivities begin at 4:30pm. The cost is $25 per player and includes FREE BEER! In addition to golf there will be on-course games such as beer pong, mega phone yelling, and other shenanigans. The event will be a scramble format and no golf experience is required. Rental golf clubs are available free of charge. Please bring a couple of golf balls and wear casual attire. Harvard Gulch is a nine hole Par 3 golf course and the longest hole is approximately 130 yards. Individuals or teams (up to 5 per team) may register below. Young Alums Rockies Night

Join the CU Young Alumni and members of The Herd to experience America’s favorite pastime: baseball. Come see Tulo, Cargo, and the ageless Jaime Moyer take on the New York Mets on Friday, April 27 at 6:40 p.m (Disclaimer: We have no idea if Jaime Moyer is actually pitching that night. But it’s pretty cool that a 49-year-old made the starting rotation).

Starting at 4:30 pm, we have reserved the tailgate room at Blake Street Tavern. They will have baseball beer specials of Coors Light for $3 and Blue Moon for $4, plus the $3 domestic beer and $4 craft beer of the month.

Don’t forget to bring your glove, as we will be sitting in the lower level along the first base line. Tickets are normally $45, but through CUYA you can join us for just $25 (Please come to Blake Street Tavern between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm to pickup your tickets). Tickets are limited, so get your now. The Young Alums invite you to join us as we class up for a red carpet, gala screening of the new feature The Descendants, directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways). The Descendants, based on the novel byKaui Hart Hemmings, is a witty story of family tragedy staring George Clooney. The screening is Saturday, November 5th at 8:00pm at the 2,000+ seat Ellie Caulkins Theater in the Denver Center for Performing Arts (DCPA). Before the screening, we invite you to join us for drinks at The Corner Office adjacent DCPA from 6:30-7:30. 2010 Poker Run

Do I need to have a team? / What’s with the team idea? There is no need to form a team and it doesn’t get you any advantage if you do.  The idea of forming a team is so that you’ll have a group of people to go bar-to-bar with.  There will be a prize awarded for the best dressed team so if costumes are your thing, by all means break them out!  We’re all out to have a great time.

Can I sign up the day of the event? Short answer:  Maybe.  We are capping this year’s Poker Run at 400 participants.  If we have space available the day of, we’ll gladly let you register.  If we don’t, tough luck.  Best to just go ahead and sign up now.

2.  From The Celtic & Delany’s you are free to proceed in whatever order you & your group would like.

3. The Final Table party begins at 7:00pm at Blake St. Tavern.  You must be in line at Blake Street Tavern to get dealt your final card and turn in your scorecard by 8:00pm.  If you are not in line by 7:30pm, your hand will be forfeited.

4.  The Top 10 hands will win a seat at the Final Table.  Here is the hierarchy of Poker Hands.

5.  Additional Cards & Hands:  If you make it to all 7 bars and are turning in a scorecard with 7 cards, you will have the opportunity to buy an 8th card for $5.  You can only buy one extra card.  You also have the opportunity to buy a new hand if you would like.  The cost for a new 7 card hand is $10.  You may buy an 8th card for your new hand.  There is no limit on the amount of new hands a participant may buy.

6.  Final Table:  The Final Table will consist of the participants that have amassed the 10 best hands on the Poker Run.  The format of the Final Table will be dealing 10 hands of face-up 5 card stud with the participant having the lowest hand being removed each round.  There is no skill involved in the Final Table.  It is purely luck.

Rules Throughout the Day

- Please use caution when walking through the streets of Denver.  Obey all crosswalks and stop lights.  Anyone seen violating the rules of the road will forfeit their hand and be removed from the Poker Run.

- Please use your best judgment with your alcohol consumption for the day.  You do not need to get a drink at each bar to be dealt a card.  Anyone who is belligerent or disorderly will forfeit their hand and be removed from the Poker Run.

- Have a designated driver assigned or plan on taking a cab home from the Poker Run.

Hope to CU out for what is hopefully a fantastic CU season!  Even if it’s not, we’re at a bar.  Win or Lose… well it’s still one great party!

Join us for a great opportunity to hang out with fellow young alumni and say that you have climbed one of the great Colorado 14’ers.  While there is nothing technical about this hike, you do need to be in reasonable shape to top this mountain.  It will be a long day, but once you make it to the top – it is SO rewarding!  The hike is 10.5 miles round trip and ascends 4,500 vertical feet.  Here’s a detailed description of the hike: http://www.14ers.com/routemain.php?route=miss1&peak=Missouri+Mountain.

The day will begin in one of two ways:  either camping Friday night near the trail or meeting at the Woolly Mammoth park–N–ride (NW corner of I-70 & Morrison exit) on Saturday morning.

For those camping, we will meet the night before at the Wooly Mammoth park-N-ride around 5:30-6 PM and set up camp near the trailhead and start on the trail with the others at 6:30 am.

For those coming up Saturday morning, please arrive by 3:45 am as we will leave sharply at 4:00 am in order to arrive to the Trail Head by 6:00 am.  After getting set up will we start off up the trail at around 6:30 am.

The hike should take approximately 8-10 hours roundtrip (with breaks) getting us back to our cars between 2:30 – 4:30 pm and back down to the park-N-ride by 4:30 – 6:30pm.  Hiking times are approximate and will depend upon the general pace of the group.

Why so early? Summer afternoons in Colorado have a high probability of thunder storms and they happen even more frequently up in the mountains.  You do not want to be near the top of the mountain much after 12:00 – 1:00pm because the chances of weather moving in quickly are very high.

What is the driving situation? Whether you are camping or not, we will all be meeting at the Woolly Mammoth park – N – ride (NW corner of I-70 & Morrison) either the night before or day of, and then car pooling from there.  If you are coming with a group you certainly can ride together.  It will take roughly 2 hours to drive to the trail head and a compact 2WD car can easily make it.  If you end up carpooling, be cool and offer the drive a little gas money.

How will I know where to meet? We will be in an uncrowded spot in the Woolly Mammoth and have a CU flag out.
