Thank you for checking out the Poker Run. This is the first year we are running this event and we are putting a lot of effort into it. Check back here frequently as we’ll continue to post updates as they come in.
What is a Poker Run?
Ok, first off this is not a Poker tournament or anything like that. This is pub crawl themed around poker.
The best way to explain how a Poker Run works is to think of it as a scattered pub crawl. We will all gather/register/begin and The Celtic & Delaney’s. From there we will have another 6 bars that are eligible Stops on the Poker Run. For each Stop that you visit, you will be dealt 1 card towards a hand of poker. You make it to 6 Bars/Stops, you’ll get 6 cards to make your best 5 card hand. 7 Bars, 7 cards to make a 5 card hand and so on. The more Bars/Stops you make it to, the higher the likelihood you’ll have a better hand.
You’ll need to bring back your poker hand to Blake St. Tavern for the Final Table Party. We sort out all the hands and the top 10 hands will get a seat to our Final Table which will give you a chance to win some great prizes. The Final Table will be a series of 10 hands of face-up 5 card stud (you do not need any poker skills to win at the Final Table, it is purely luck). At the end of each hand, the lowest 5 card hand will leave the Final Table and be sent away with prize. To see what we’ve got lined up for prizes scroll down. They are legit.
When?
On Saturday, August 7th, the Poker Run will begin at 4:00pm at The Celtic & Delaney’s. The Final Table Party will be at The NEW Blakde St. Tavern and start at 7:00, poker hands must be turned in by 8:00 The Final Table & After Party will go until 11:00pm
Where?
We have locked in our 7 bars. Everyone will register at The Celtic / Delaney’s. From there you have the option of hitting Lodo’s, The Sport’s Column, Breckenridge Brewery, The Ginn Mill & The Whiskey Bar. You want to hit as many as possible to have the best chance to make the final table at Blake St. Tavern. Please check out our sponsors!
What’s with the Final Table & After Party?
The Final Table & After Party are going to be the highlight of the event. Blake St. has given us their entire downstairs level for us to play with. As people are coming in there will be FREE FOOD to help you soak up all the fun you’ve had throughout the day. We’ll have a DJ & dance floor going to keep the party rocking. The Final Table itself will have a lot of energy as the prizes we are giving away are going to be legit. All of the Top 5 prizes will be valued at minimum of $100! Once the grand prize has been awarded we’ll break open the dance floor and continue the party. It’s going to be a heck of a time.
Prizes
We are still accululating prizes for the Final Table and a full list will be finalized next month but here’s what we’ve got so far.
CU Buffs Football & Basketball Tickets, Tickets to the Rockies, Avs, & Nuggets, 4 some to Colorado National, Stranahan’s Whiskey, Bose Head Phones, a stay the Hotel Boulderado, CU apparel, Golf lessons from GolfTEC, Gifts from Coors Light, and a NEW (to you) CAR!
There will also be PRIZES FOR THE BEST DRESSED TEAM!
Cost & Entry?
Given that this is our first year for the Poker Run we want this to be a huge success. Cost to enter the Poker Run is only $10 per person. What? Yea, only $10 and that gets you an afternoon of hanging out with hundreds of Young Alums, free food at Blake St, and the opportunity to win some sweet prizes! It is one heck of a deal. It’s not required but we highly recommend you form a team for the event. You’ll have a built in crew to tour Lodo with and as always, the people you bring out, the better time you have. Costume/Themed teams are strongly encouraged and prized will be awared for the best dressed team.
To register do so via the PayPal button below. We’ll need your team name (if you want one), & cell phone # in case we need to get in touch with you. Spread the word and pass this onto your friends. We always love seeing Young Alums out but it’s not a requirement that your friend(s) had to attend CU to participate… just as long as it wasn’t Nebraska… Ok even if they went to Nebraska, just tell them to keep quiet about it.
