Film on the Rocks

August 18, 2009
5:00 pmto11:00 pm
The Denver Young Alumni are happy to announce the second installment of our newest event for summer 2009. We will be hosting a night of music, film and good times with your fellow CU Alums at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Denver Film Society is bringing a fantastic line-up of classic movies and bands to Red Rocks this summer. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, August 18 for Top Gun and Paper Bird. The music starts at 6:45 and the film starts at dusk. We had a great time tailgating in the upper north lot before the show so we encourage you to arrive early and join us for the festivities. Tickets for this film will be $10 each. To purchase and arrange pick-up of your tickets, please contact Amber Hull at amber.amaris@gmail.com. Include your name, the number of tickets you want, email address, and phone number (in case we need to contact you about your tickets). We have a limited number of tickets available so please RSVP by August 15.

About Top Gun (not that we all don’t know every line in the movie anyway): Maverick (Tom Cruise) is a reckless F-14 pilot who flies by instinct and breaks all of the rules. While attending the Navy’s elite air combat training academy, affectionately known as “Top Gun,” Maverick romances the civilian astrophysics instructor (Kelly McGillis) and competes with crackerjack pilot Ice (Val Kilmer) for top honors. He is the quintessential rebel, upsetting senior officers with his antics and risk-taking while simultaneously amazing them with his skill. In the end, Maverick overcomes a tragic loss and his need to stand out in the crowd and proves that he can shine as part of a team. Anthony Edwards stars as Maverick’s best friend and co-pilot, Goose, and Meg Ryan first garnered attention as Goose’s wife, Carole. Superb state-of-the-art aerial photography makes TOP GUN, directed by Tony Scott, one of the most exciting and entertaining films of its genre. This top grossing movie of 1986 is allegedly based on a Navy fighter pilot program at the Miramar Naval Base in San Diego, California, and was filmed on location at the base.
