Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Colorado is proud to announce that the CU Young Alumni Association is one of our first partners of the 1000 Homes Campaign! There’s No Place Like Home. We need your help!

What: CU Young Alumni Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Day
Who: CU Young Alumni Association members

When: Saturday, August 1, 2009, 8:30am-4:30pm (bring your own lunch, sunscreen, closed toed shoes, and water)
Construction Experience: None required. A skilled construction supervisor will teach you everything you need to know!

YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE FOR THIS EVENT. ONLY 10 SPOTS ARE AVAILABLE!

To register for the CU Young Alumni Build Day click here.

Event Description:
On August 1st, Habitat for Humanity of Colorado and Blue Spruce Habitat for Humanity will host a group of 10 CU Young Alums to help construct a new home for a hard working family just outside of Evergreen. This is a great opportunity to help a low-income family in Colorado realize their dream of homeownership. You must bring a signed Liability Waiver with you, which will be made available to you after you register.

To donate to Habitat for Humanity of Colorado click here

In conjunction with the volunteer construction day in Evergreen, if the CU Young Alumni Association collectively donates at least $1,000 dollars, you will be recognized for your commitment to help Colorado’s low-income families with a Yellow Brick sponsorship. If the CU Young Alumni donate $50,000 collectively, you will be recognized as a Knowledge sponsor, receiving the recognition of the Yellow Brick level, as well as being recognized in our annual report.

Habitat for Humanity does not give away homes. Families must invest 250-500 hours of “sweat equity” constructing their own home and have a zero-interest 30 year mortgage.

Monthly payments are capped at 30% of the families income.

The median family of four in the Evergreen area makes $82,500 a year, while a typical Habitat family of four in the same area makes between $16,500-$41,250 a year. Habitat families receive homeowner education prior to moving in, and as a result, Habitat has a less than 2% foreclosure rate nationwide.

Film on the Rocks

July 13, 2009
6:30 pmto10:30 pm

The Denver Young Alumni are happy to announce our newest event for summer 2009. We will be hosting a night of music, film and good times with your fellow CU Alums at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The Denver Film Society is bringing a fantastic line-up of classic movies and bands to Red Rocks this summer. We invite you to join us on Monday, July 13 for Office Space and Gregory Alan Isakov. The music starts at 6:45 and the film starts at dusk.

To kick off this new event, we will be offering discount tickets for $8 each. To purchase and arrange pick-up of your tickets, please contact Amber Hull at amber.amaris@gmail.com. Include your name, the number of tickets you want, email address, and phone number (in case we need to contact you about your tickets). We have a limited number of discount tickets available so please RSVP by July 9.

About Office Space: This geeky 1999 office comedy starring Ron Livingston as a corporate Everyman instantly gained cult status for its unabashed caricatures of office personalities, and its theme of corporate sabotage. Peter Gibbons (Livingston) is a typical middle manager living a mundane life amid a gray maze of cubicles. Everything in his life reeks of mediocrity, from the mid-size car he drives to the chain restaurant, Chotchky’s (read: TGI Friday’s), where he eats lunch every day. Even his apartment, a cookie-cutter duplex with walls so thin that he can chat with his next-door neighborhood through the plaster, is totally lacking in personality. The company where he works is peppered with ambitionless drones who blindly comply with the condescending requests made of them by their Porsche-driving CEO (Gary Cole). Then one day, Gibbons snaps. As a team of experts is brought in to enact large-scale layoffs, Gibbons simply stops trying and adopts an attitude of total disinterest. That is, he’s only interested in dating the blond waitress (Jennifer Anniston) at the local restaurant, and putting in place a devilish scheme for some corporate payback.
